Ellen and Pete booked their newborn session a couple of months before their due date to make sure they could get their newborn baby photography session done within the first few weeks of the birth. In the end gorgeous baby Maisie was born a little earlier than expected and she was three weeks old by the time I went to photograph her in their home in Bromley.
Outside was a bit of a grey and miserable day – perfect for staying tucked up inside cuddling up to a gorgeous new baby.

Being just that tiny bit older meant that baby Maisie wasn’t quite as sleepy as brand new newborns usually are – the magic window for sleepy babies is in the first two weeks and a few days can make all the difference – and she was a little unsettled at the baby photography session. However that meant there was lots of time to get some gorgeous images of the family together, feeding, cuddling, rocking – just gazing into her beautiful eyes! As a Bromley newborn baby photographer I am always baby-led in my newborn photography sessions. So if baby needs feeding, baby is fed; if baby doesn’t like being alone on the posing beanbag, then we’ll just do lots of cuddling with mummy and daddy photographs then. It’s the beauty of being a natural lifestyle baby photographer – I don’t have a set list of shots I’m trying to get and we’ll work around what works for the baby. In the end Maisie happily settled and stared open-eyed out the window at the grey clouds passing by and we got some lovely shots of her all wrapped up. But my favourites are definitely the ones snuggling with mummy and daddy.
