Best London documentary family photographer

about me

Hi I’m Rachel – a published and multi award-winning photographer and film-maker.

I cut my teeth over 25 years ago as a photo-journalist and now specialise in capturing real life stories of small businesses and families. I’m a mum, artist, campervan enthusiast, music-lover and sea-seeker amongst other things. Originaly from Northumberland I now live in Malton in North Yorkshire, after 20 years in London.

So here’s a few more facts about me, that make up my story (and a photo of me in a Scottish loch with blue hair!):

  • I adore the sea in all weathers (though not necessarily in the sea come blustery winds and rain!). For me a beach isn’t really a beach without crashing waves, long empty dunes and touch of the bleak about it. It’s the Northumbrian in me.
  • I could probably quite happily live on a diet solely comprising cheese. There’s really just not enough cheese in the world (apart from Wensleydale – the world can keep the Wensleydale!).
  • And wine. Really good wine. And the occasional (ok not that occasional) single malt.
  • Lazy sunny afternoons where the kids entertain themselves with a sprinkler and a drippy ice cream; digging in the dirt; or rock-pooling are the best.
  • I’m a little bit obsessed with my campervan and in my head would love to escape it all on a round the world trip. In reality we’d probably realise it was a prison on wheels before we got much past Dover!
  • I’m an enthusiastic allotment plot holder and avid chutney maker with the produce.
  • Sting used to be a teacher in my primary school!
